Facebook- Thing #12

Although there are those who do not like fb, I think it is a great way to communicate with patrons about events at the library.  I already had a fb prior to doing my 23 things, and I use it mostly to keep in touch with family and friends.  Now, I have started to use fb also to follow a few organizations, such as the Frisco Public Library, and really like getting new updates and information.

Linked In- Thing #11

I joined Linked In, and was able to find several of my family member's profiles.  This website is used to connect professionals with others in the same field.  While it seems like a very useful tool for professional social networking, I don't see how it would be useful to patrons in the library.

Library Thing- Thing #10

I LOVE Library thing! This is definitely something the library could use. Patrons can read reviews or recommendations, join groups, or talk in forums about books they have read.  Overall, just a really neat website =)

Delicious- Thing #9

I really like Delicious!  This is a useful tool to have while you are at work, or using a computer other than your own.  Bookmarking all your favorite and most needed websites is so much easier than having to type in the url's individually! The only downside was having to create a Yahoo account, just another username and password to have to remember =P  I will keep using Delicious as long as I can remember my Login/Password!

Tagging- Thing #8

Tagging could be useful to the library.  It is a little unstructured and freeform, but it can be a quick way for patrons to quickly find websites, pictures, etc. using keywords. Easy to use.

Instant Messaging- Thing #7

I used to use instant messaging on AOL back when it first started, before text messaging became popular.  It was really nice then, but now it's just easier to text, since that doesn't require you logging on to a computer and having internet connection. I think what's even better than AOL or Yahoo instant messaging and texting is Skype, which allows people and businesses to make free videos and voice calls, send instant messages, and share files with other Skype users worldwide. Digg- Thing #6

This website kind of reminds me of Google reader and the RSS feeds. There are different news categories you can pick from, ex. Entertainment. Then, the headlines for that category are displayed, and you can choose from numerous articles to read about.  For me, it's basically the same function as Google reader and the RSS feeds, but just a different name!

Twitter- Thing #5

Didn't really like Twitter. It's pretty useful for posting new updates and events, but I found that most postings were unimportant.  For example, I chose to follow a celebrity, but most of their postings were just plain boring.  I really don't care to know that they just finished working out at the gym and are headed for the showers...

Picture Sharing- Thing #4

Picture sharing could definitely help benefit the library by sharing pictures with the community of events that occur inside the library.  I signed up for a photobucket account, and I like it because I am able to share pictures with friends and family.  Here is one of my favorite funny pictures that a friend sent me:

RSS feeds- Thing #3

I like RSS feeds, you just add RSS feeds of topics you are interested in and the information is sent directly to you. Pretty cool!
